Good afternoon Canadian Forces Member! If you're Indigenous, I celebrate you today. I do not look good in Orange, but I'm wearing my Orange Shirt for National Truth and Reconciliation Day. We are at that time of year where someone has to wake someone else up because September has just about met its end. For me, a new month just means my Mastercard is due and we can have all four seasons show up between arriving at the office and bedtime. If you're not experiencing the fall season wherever you are right now, let me remind you of what you're missing: campfire smells, fall soups, thanksgiving decor and pumpkin spiced everything. The harvest meal deal is on at Swiss Chalet too, and last week it included a piece of pumpkin pie. Had no whipped cream but it was still good. I don't know where you'll be on Thanksgiving, but I hope it's somewhere warm and comfortable, and that you're surrounded by good people. Back home, we are all grateful for what you do and the sacrifices you make. Now go put on a sweater and know that you are loved. xx Jeannine VanderBeek

Canadian Armed Forces, My father was a veteran of the Cold War in the 70's. I was always very proud of him! Yes, he flew the CF-104 Starfighter in West Germany and often flew low level (approximately 200 feet above the ground) in often poor weather conditions. This was the role of the Starfighter in Germany in the 70's. I think we lost 8-10 fighter pilots during the tough training. The Starfighter was nicknamed the Widow Maker, but those who flew it loved the aircraft. It was also nicknamed the missile with a man in it! You didn't want to get a compressor stall as it was a single jet engine that glided like a crowbar! A little bit of history for the R.C.A.F. Warm regards, James B.
