Containerized On-Board Reelable Array

Project Type

Project New

Objective

The COBRA project will deliver a transportable, underwater detection and tracking capability for the AOPVs to enhance their current mission sets. Increasing the CAF’s capabilities in our Arctic and offshore waters is one of the key requirements of the AOPVs and the addition of an easily transportable underwater sensor suite will help the ship contribute to the defence of Canada and North America. Specifically, while the class is not considered a combatant, having a sensor suite to contribute to the shared awareness and understanding of undersea activities occurring in Canadian maritime approaches, maritime areas, and internal waterways is an important contribution to NORAD’s maritime warning mission.

Requirements

COBRA will deliver a containerized ASW sensor for use in naval platforms and other vessels, to provide a deployable sensor to expand the RCN’s maritime underwater domain awareness in Canada’s Arctic and littoral waters.
