Joint Fires Modernization
Project Type
Project New
Objective
Joint Fires Modernization Project (JFM) will acquire modern hardware and software that will enable the Canadian Army (CA) to digitally share fire support and targeting information across the tactical and operational levels, into the CAF Joint Targeting Enterprise, and with partners and allies. Additionally, it will enable Canada to meet international interoperability commitments with the United States, the Five Eyes (FVEY) Alliance, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), manage obsolescence issues, and achieve enhanced operator readiness through resource-efficient training.
Requirements
The JFM Project will deliver the following:
- Digital Fires Command and Control (C2) and Targeting Software - to facilitate planning and execution of the deliberate and dynamic targeting cycles, exchange digitized information between sensors, deciders, and effectors in a multinational coalition context, and enable the rapid prosecution of targets within the land domain while minimizing the potential for fratricide and collateral damage;
- Tactical Equipment - to permit users in both the vehicle mounted and dismounted roles to acquire targets, determine their location with enhanced accuracy, and rapidly coordinate the actions of the appropriate effectors via digitally enabled communications with optimized physical and cognitive effort; and
- Training/Simulation Systems - to train users in their duties in a realistic, immersive, accredited, and networked virtual environment, realize the economic and temporal advantage offered by next generation simulation systems, and to provide the end user with a series of tools with which they may maximize their individual and collective proficiency.
