CH146 Griffon Limited Life Extension Project
Project Type
Project Extension
Objective
The project will extend the life of the CH-146 Griffon beyond the current Estimated Life Expectancy so that the aircraft can continue to be operationally relevant and remain a vital contributor to the readiness of the Canadian Army, the Canadian Special Operations Force Command, as well as the Search and Rescue posture, well into the future. The extension will bridge the gap until a replacement capability is acquired through the Next Tactical Aviation Capability Set project.
Requirements
The project will replace obsolete cockpit avionics, instruments and displays, and deliver a complete up-to-date digital configuration that includes the integration of mission equipment. The configuration also include new digitally controlled engines. The update is required to retain the operational relevance of the CH-146 Griffon over an extended life, maintain the fleet capacity to support mandated commitments, and operate without restriction, in both international and domestic controlled airspace.
Implementation contract W8475-205391/001/BF awarded to Bell Helicopter Textron Limited in April 2021. Contract to upgrade Full Motion Flight Simulator will be awarded to CAE in FY 2024-2025.
