Recap Gagetown Range and Training Area
Project Type
Project Recap
Objective
Upgrade roads in a training area to meet the needs of the modern Canadian Armed Forces while improving safety and environmental compliance. Infrastructure consolidation and range improvements will enhance training capabilities, with a focus on long-term sustainability.
Requirements
The RTA has a generally low development density, and its geography is characterized by Acadian forests, streams, rivers, wetlands, and rolling terrain. It includes approximately 64 km² of mapped wetlands, 3,273 km of mapped watercourses, and 155 ponds and lakes. The concentration of wetlands and waterbodies distinguishes this RTA from other training areas in Canada. As a result, significantly greater investment is required to mitigate negative environmental impacts, maintain operations, and ensure compliance with environmental legislation and policies.
